Biography

Yaya Toure (or Toure Yaya) was born on May 13th, 1983 in Ivory Coast. He is currently playing for FC Barcelona as a midfielder. He is known by the nickname “Firewall” because of his strong physique and skills in stopping the opponents.

Yaya’s first club was ASEC Mimosas, a big Ivorian club. He played in their youth academy, and then he went to Europe. He first played for Beveren in Belgium, and then transfered to Donetsk in Ukraine. In 2005 Yaya moved to Olympiakos in Greece. During that time, he played a pre-season in Arsenal, but didn’t get a real chance. In 2006 he moved to Monaco, after refusing to play for Olympiakos.

In 2007 FC Barcelona signed Toure for €9 million. He is now wearing the shirt with the number 24. He debuted for Barcelona in August 2007, and scored his first goal against FC Inter in a friendly game.
